Vision for Mission

|| VISION FOR MISSION ||

How about a New Year's resolution vision to become a better human being and a mission to be a better human being? It is said that a vision is what you want to do, and a mission is what you have to do. I believe that to create a better and more beautiful world around us, we need to have a vision and mission similar to the way nature, plants, birds, animals, air, and water do. Regardless of what happens, we will always be who we are. As human beings, we should strive to be better individuals, whether it is in our professional work, as members of a family, as part of a community, or as citizens of a country. As a child, I aspired to become a doctor but couldn't get admission, so I became an audiologist and speech-language pathologist. Once I chose to pursue such a profession, my goal was to be one of the best professionals. Throughout this journey, I realized that no matter what you do in life, unless and until you are a kind and considerate human being, nothing truly works. Being a human being who understands the difficulties of others, being there for them when needed, and sharing both happiness and sorrows are essential steps to achieving real success.

We, as human beings, tend to overthink and are never satisfied with what we have or what we do. I recently attended the Purple International Film Festival in Goa, where approximately 5000 delegates from all around the world gathered. These delegates included specially challenged individuals and those working with them. The organizers worked tirelessly to ensure that everything fell into place. The organizer shared with us that even when specially challenged individuals arrived at midnight, arrangements were made to pick them up by bus. In case of delays, these special individuals patiently waited. On the other hand, some 'normal' people who were provided five-star hotel accommodations were not satisfied with the size of their rooms. It's disheartening to see individuals who are never content. For them, the vision is centered around 'me,' and the mission is 'me, myself, and my attitude towards others.' Such people, who are never satisfied, may find it challenging to be content, regardless of the circumstances, and it's a mindset that even God may struggle to help

During the festival, I also had the opportunity to speak about 'Change is Hear.' The concept revolves around the idea that early screening and intervention for hearing-impaired individuals can significantly reduce disability in society. The advent of digital hearing aids and cochlear implants has brought about substantial changes in hearing health. To educate and create mass awareness, we produced two films that I had the privilege of showcasing during the event. While presenting the films, I interacted with a few hearing-impaired individuals who communicated through sign language. They raised two important questions: One person asked if it's possible to get help at their age to improve their hearing. Another individual inquired why they should shift from their current setup of sign language if they have accepted it and are content. He emphasized that their vision is clear, and they find happiness in what they do.

Nowadays, common issues persist wherever we go, marked by the prevalence of myths and misconceptions in various aspects of life. Overcoming these challenges requires constant struggle. Even if hearing-impaired children receive early intervention and a good education, securing a job remains a significant issue. Most schools do not integrate them into mainstream education, and many corporate environments hesitate to hire them. Despite their ability to behave like their normal counterparts, they often face rejection when seeking life partners. Breaking these taboos is crucial for their acceptance in society. Addressing the challenges of hearing impairment and working to eliminate societal taboos can be an additional burden, leading individuals to retreat into their own shells. It should be our mission as good human beings to learn how to integrate them into an inclusive society.

While we often seek technological revolutions in our daily lives, we fail to recognize the need for a revolution in our emotional connections. We use mobile phones to convey both work-related matters and feelings. We desire robots to perform tasks for us and seek the latest facilities in our homes. However, the new generation of parents, despite their efforts to keep up with their kids, often lack emotional connections with their own parents. Many parents find themselves at a loss when their children go abroad or live separately, uncertain about what to do with their acquired possessions. The purpose of their vision and hard work, focused on providing for their children, becomes unclear. After toiling for their mission, the only thing left is to wait for their children to reconnect.

We often believe that our vision is to earn money, establish standards, live a lavish life, and have all the facilities available. Our mission becomes working endlessly and utilizing all possibilities. However, in this pursuit, we sometimes forget the divine force of our Lord. Our ancestors have laid a strong foundation for us, providing essentials like air to breathe, food through plants, and water for survival. Without the divine vision for humans to exist in this universe and the mission to sustain life, these luxuries might not have been possible.

As someone rightly said, the growth of any individual, both internal and external, is interconnected with the growth of those around them. Internal peace is not achievable unless there is collective growth. We all possess immense energy that can be spread through kindness and being good human beings, creating a positive impact on the world. When an individual endeavors to create a vision and mission for change, it is not solely their responsibility to work hard. Rather, they require the support of those around them to effect change. Together, we have the power to make a difference. We don't need magic; we simply need to understand what is right and necessary for society, and collectively create a vision and mission to bring about change.

A beautiful line goes, 'Kindness is like snow; it beautifies everything it covers.' The vision of beautification is something that all human beings should collectively pursue. Our mission, from this point forward, should be rooted in positivity—complimenting each other, magnifying our strengths so that our weaknesses are overlooked. Let's create a simple vision and mission: Your journey is not the same as mine, and mine is not the same as yours. However, let's decide that if we meet on a certain path, we will encourage each other with positivity. This holds true for both normal individuals and those facing special challenges. I am ready—what about you?
