Find the Cause to Find a Cure

Find the Cause to Find a Cure

We have been given human life with a special organ called the brain. When we talk about the cause, the first thing that comes to mind is: Does the cause have a definition, or is the cause something that depends on the choices we make? After 32 years of dealing with patients, I feel that the biggest cause of any anxiety, disease, relationship, or emotion totally depends on how insecure we are. I have seen insecurity about not having people, good thoughts, work, or nature around us. Our cultural values say that staying together in a family or having unity in a family is the biggest boon one can have, but in the selfie world and following the modern world, somehow we are losing those values. We follow something like this: wishing to be a nuclear family or having facilities and trying to have people who are strangers to our family, and trying to raise children with their support rather than taking personal care of them. Taking care of our kids at an earlier age is the best security one can provide as parents. The best cure for any human being totally depends on how good care has been taken by parents and family during their early age.

We feel that in the modern world or in foreign countries, kids are raised on their own and they try to make them independent, and after a certain age, they are on their own to face the world. But I tell you, from what I have seen with my own eyes, in other parts of the world, people take such good care of their kids at an earlier age. We were hiking a 1000 elevation in Yosemite in San Francisco to see the waterfall. So many parents were there with their kids to hike. I have seen so many parents climbing mountains with babies on their backs. I have seen a young lady hiking with one baby in a carrier bag on her back and another baby holding her hand, all with smiles on their faces. No stress of caring. They build such deep security for their kids that when they grow up, they are ready to face any challenges.

Recently, I met parents in the USA who are Indians staying in America. He says, 'My kids go to the temple every Sunday and learn about the Bhagavad Gita, and I also take classes for other children who are small and want to have knowledge about the Bhagavad Gita.' Kids are so obedient that they sit with you and discuss the cause of uncertainty and how to overcome it with those learnings. The law of cause and effect, as described by one scientist, says that whatever you do in life and the rewards you get always depend on the quality you render throughout the long run. How much we do as individuals, we need to analyze, rather than following someone, some community, or some country.

I was attending an international conference, and one of our speakers, who is also my guide, narrated this beautiful statement: 'Find a cause, and you find a cure.' He says we have technology in the hearing industry, but still, we are not able to generate people who hear well or understand why people still do not accept and try to overcome disability because every person on this universe has their own perception according to the environment they are raised in. And it's so true; some may like Mercedes cars, some may like sports cars, some seek comfort, and some seek courage in exploring.

We see many times some people are so sensitive towards sounds given by hearing aids or cochlear implants, and some are so comfortable in noisy environments. Some hate annoyance by sounds, and they get distracted by sounds and are not able to concentrate on what people say, and also noise created in the environment reduces their speech intelligibility. So it is very important for us as Audiologists to know how our clients perceive loud sounds and speech sounds so we can provide the best solution for them. When patients come to us with hearing difficulties, the most important thing for us to know is how they perceive sounds in noisy environments. Once we understand that, we can give the best cure or solution for their hearing problem.

Lord Krishna says the best cure for humanity is to know the cause of their inheritance, their integrity, and knowing their purpose in life. For a simple explanation, in the Bhagavad Gita, there was one devotee of Krishna who was old but still wanted to live a life to have a glimpse of Krishna. There was a snake that was adding poison to the river and was troubling human life, wanting to teach a lesson to Lord Krishna. Arjuna wanted to know about dharma and wanted to help Lord Krishna fight against dharma. The history of our ancestors says the cause and cure are within us, but it's just that we are not trying to analyze it.

If we as humans just take a small amount of time every day to analyze in our own way what exactly our purpose in life is. Do we want to have a passion or purpose, or just flow with whatever we do in our own routine life? Comparison, competition, jealousy, especially in the trends of social media, will add a small poison in our bodies every day. Being happy with what we have in our lives will be the best cure for our disease. To help humanity with passion and compassion will help us lead a physically and mentally healthy life. Today, self-analysis and positivity are helping me lead a more beautiful life. If I can, why can't you?"

Understanding ourselves is crucial. Just like we figure out what makes plants grow well, we need to understand what makes us tick. It's about looking inside and figuring out what really matters to us. We shouldn't just follow what everyone else does or wants us to do. Instead, we should dig deep and find our own reasons for doing things. It's like exploring a hidden treasure within ourselves. By knowing who we truly are, we can find peace and happiness. So, let's take the time to think about what drives us and what makes us happy. It's a journey worth taking, and it's up to each of us to start it.
