Digital Detox for the Soul...

Digital Detox for the Soul....

I read somewhere that in our universe, it's not the strongest species that survive the most, nor the most intelligent ones, but those that are the most adaptable to change. If you observe animals or birds, they are among the most adaptable species. When there is a change in the environment, they migrate or adjust themselves easily to survive better. The moment the environment changes back to what suits them, they return to their roots or original habitat the place where they feel most comfortable. Now, just look at these natural species that have existed on this planet for years, surviving without any technological revolution. If you reflect on this, you'll realize that while we humans have been blessed with digital transformation and technology which should be used to enhance comfort and convenience when it comes to emotions and feelings, we still need to go back to our roots for soul connection and true relaxation. It is proven that no matter how much we adapt to technology, genuine connection cannot survive without real social interaction  not through social media, but by being physically present with each other, sharing the warmth of human presence and the comfort of the place we truly belong to.

Through social media, the rise of constant competition, jealousy, cruelty, and negativity has led to a significant decline in patience. Anger and both physical and mental attacks have increased so much that people are losing their sense of existence losing the reality of life, warmth, emotions, relationships, and so much more. Recently, I met a girl who witnessed a boy abusing a girl both physically and mentally. Sadly, this kind of behavior has become so common, normalized by movies and passively accepted by society. That girl told me, “I don’t want to marry. I don’t trust anyone anymore. What’s the point of marriage if I won’t be respected?” She went on to say, “Instead, I’d rather create a partner with AI at least he would do things I like or love.” Just imagine, where is our world, our universe, heading?

I say it again and again every hearing-impaired child can lead a normal life with the help of digital technology tailored to their needs. It is truly empowering them and making a positive difference. However, on the other hand, the rapid changes in digital technology are also creating a chaotic situation. We humans are becoming increasingly confused, often swept away by a wave of negativity, to the point where we struggle to rationalize what is truly good or bad for us. Digitalization can be a powerful tool for fast communication and positive activities that help us stay connected and efficient. But when it comes to relationships, warmth, emotions, and personal connections love cannot be built or sustained through digital means alone. For that, we need the human heart and the human mind to feel, to think, and to truly connect.

Sometimes, I truly feel that with the help of technology, our hearing-impaired kids are not just hearing they are learning good language, and they are learning to speak just like us. They are trying to lead a normal life with complete focus and dedication. Many of them work incredibly hard and, as a result, earn great respect in society. Interestingly, when they use social media, they are often very subtle and thoughtful in their actions. They observe, learn good things from others, and apply it meaningfully in their lives. I still remember when I organized a fashion show with these special kids. I asked them how they felt about the experience, and they said, “We see on social media how ‘normal’ people do such things. Today, we felt that we can also do it we are like them.” That moment was so powerful. Yet, when I look at how some people misuse the same platform resorting to vulgarity, abusive language, and spreading negativity it feels disheartening. Sometimes, I believe that for a true digital detox of the soul, one should look at and learn from these special children. They show us how to use technology with grace, humility, and purpose.

Digital detox is only truly possible when your soul learns to adapt to the changes that life brings. Today, we see a common scene in many households mothers feeding their children while the child is glued to an iPad or iPhone. The child doesn’t even realize what they’re eating, nor are they using their gross visual motor coordination. Most importantly, they are missing out on the warmth and love with which the mother has prepared and is feeding the food. When you rely solely on technology to keep your child engaged, you’re unintentionally making them more attached to devices than to you. How can you expect your child to relate to you, to feel your presence and connect with the universe around them, if their senses are constantly occupied by screens? To help your child truly feel the world, you must first detox yourself from the overwhelming grip of digital growth. Use digital platforms to learn how to make nutritious food, yes but when you feed your child, do it with your heart. Let your emotions, your presence, and your love be the nourishment they remember.

To truly love someone whether it's your child, your spouse, your family, your friends, your pets, your hobbies, or your work you don’t need digitalization. Love doesn't require screens. However, to reach somewhere faster, to communicate in emergencies, or to innovate, yes technology plays an important role. But digital detox becomes possible only when we learn to distinguish what’s truly good or bad for us. That clarity doesn’t come from following the crowd it comes from self-awareness. If you observe animals and birds, they only migrate when necessary to places that are comfortable or safe. They move only when they need to, and return when the time is right. Can we, as humans, learn to live with the same awareness? I believe this mindset is the best solution for achieving a real digital detox to live consciously, to choose wisely, and to stay rooted in what truly matters.

God created this universe and made all humans with the same core configuration the same potential for love, empathy, and growth. But it was humans, using their minds, who created religion not to unite, but often to differentiate, dividing one another instead of celebrating each individual's unique personality. Much of this division has been amplified by the misuse of digital technology. I’ve always believed that an intelligent mind, when directed wisely, leads to innovation that protects and uplifts humanity. But when that same intelligence is misused, it learns to destroy emotionally, socially, and even spiritually. We often blame the universe or God for our suffering, but in reality, we are the ones walking the path of destruction. Why blame our protector, when we are the ones misusing the tools given to us? Remember how Lord Krishna chose Kurukshetra a small, neutral field, free from distractions for the great battle? He chose a place where no external influence could disturb the warriors’ focus. In the same way, we must use digital technology with intention, clarity, and purpose not let it consume us. Only then can we truly think about a digital detox for the soul.

Digital Detox for the Soul is not just about switching off devices it’s about switching on awareness. It's about reclaiming the essence of human connection, grounding ourselves in real emotions, and using technology as a tool, not a trap. When we become conscious of how, when, and why we use digital platforms, we begin to live more mindfully. Just as nature teaches us to adapt with grace and purpose, we too must learn to embrace technology with intention, and detach when it starts to overshadow our values, relationships, and inner peace. The path to true digital detox begins with self-awareness choosing presence over distraction, depth over speed, and soulfulness over screen time.
