CHANGE AGAINST RESISTANCE
CHANGE AGAINST RESISTANCE
Someone said very aptly, “The world hates change, but that is the only thing that can bring change.” Change has come due to a revolution in every aspect of life. But which change is good and which change may not be good, people are not able to differentiate. Resistance to change is the biggest obstacle. But one must also be aware that change for the good is always painful. However, if you overcome it, it takes you to success. Recently, I saw many cases of youngsters, very young, having strokes. They are going through a lot of anxiety and stress. Why?? Maybe due to social media, a lot of competition, and comparison?? Expectations of oneself are also too high. They don’t have patience for any situation and are aggressive. Whatever they need should be done in a short time. And one important thing observed is that they are very rigid in their approach. They don’t feel like changing. A resistance to change according to circumstances is not learned, or they don’t want to learn.
We have seen many old-age patients having paralytic attacks and losing speech. Among them, some who were very active find the sudden pause in life unacceptable. Some are of very old age, so they feel, “Now my life is over. Why give trouble to others? Why work so hard to improve?” Rarely, you find people with strong willpower who say, “Whatever happens, I will try my best to improve.”Now, this young generation, who are connected to social media and have all the facilities available in life first, they don’t like defeat. Second, they lose confidence drastically. That doesn’t allow them to improve, and many more...
Recently, I met a boy who was 38, staying separately from his parents with his wife, working in a reputed company. But he was very short-tempered, had fights every day at home, and then one day lost control of his mind. Bad habits led to a brain stroke. A 38-year-old body, not able to walk well, not able to write or speak?? Situation not acceptable. He even left answering phone calls. His wife left, not ready to take on responsibilities. Now, old-age parents are taking care of him. Being very stubborn and short-tempered, he is not ready to accept what has happened to him. It is very difficult to improve such a person who is not ready to change. In such cases, 3 to 6 months is the window for spontaneous recovery. If they don’t cooperate and have such strong resistance, what can be done???
One well-known personality said, “India is a country with an old civilization and has roots so strong from their ancestors.” They are culturally, geographically, and spiritually very strong. Now, the majority of the population in India is youngsters below 30 years of age. But if these youngsters are not flexible and not ready to change, what will happen?? They are digitally connected so strongly to the outer world, thanks to today’s educated parents. But dear parents, only education and digital connection are not enough. How you treat others with humbleness is also equally important. If our culture over the years says, “Respect elders, be humble, and spread kindness,” it has a real meaning behind it.
One day, I was just entering my clinic, and we had a few kids sitting outside who had come for hearing testing. I think 6 to 7 kids were there between the ages of 2 to 5 years. All of them were so engrossed in their parents’ phones. I said, “As it is, they have difficulty in hearing, and if you give phones like this, how will they hear communication from others?” One of the parents said, “We have only spoiled our kids. They demand, and we give. If we say no, they don’t listen and become stubborn to get it.” I mean, parents have such confused minds that they don’t want to accept that their kids have difficulty, and now they have found an easy escape from their responsibilities. Parents' technology can be used to understand the world around us, but before that, a child needs to learn language to be in this world, to communicate with people.
If technology can do magic, then we don’t all need to do anything. Just stay in one place, and everything will be done automatically. We as humans have emotions and feelings. That also doesn’t seem to matter anymore. We should be better than creatures like animals and birds. On one side, we want to behave and live with technology. On the other side, I was talking to someone who said, “Everyone is unpredictable. You can’t rely on anyone. It’s difficult to forgive the way people behave with us.” I said, “I, as an individual, have faith in Lord Krishna, and we’ve heard that Lord Krishna, even when he fought with devils, allowed them to be free and also forgave them. Then who are we? Why can’t we forgive??” A change between mythology and technology, how do we balance? Where do we want to be??
We don’t know where we humans are heading! We want change due to technology, but we are not able to come out of our myths and misconceptions. We don’t want to believe in the spirituality that our ancestors had, and we resist believing that, too?? Unless and until we make a change in our thought process, we will not understand what is good due to a change. And if we don’t have a flexible approach towards change, then we will just keep flowing with the flow without any purpose in life.
In the journey of life, change is inevitable, but meaningful change requires awareness, acceptance, and adaptability. Whether it’s the younger generation grappling with stress and rigidity, or the older generation facing health challenges, the core message remains the same: resistance blocks growth, while openness paves the path to healing and transformation. Technology, tradition, and spirituality each hold their place, but only when balanced with human values like humility, patience, and forgiveness. It’s time we reflect on our mindset, realign with our roots, and embrace change not as a threat, but as a bridge to a more compassionate, purposeful life.
