The possibilities are endless...

There is a saying that those who can see the invisible can do the impossible. It is also said that possibilities are endless, but it depends on how we act and react to them. Those who overcome difficulties and focus on possibilities are people with determined minds and strong willpower. They see endless opportunities in life. The best example for me is our hearing-impaired kids. Even though one of their senses does not function well, even though they sometimes feel isolated from mainstream society, even though they struggle to get education, employment, and social status, they still face everything with smiling faces and give their best. They are humble, grateful at heart, and happy with whatever God has given them. Technology has brought a revolution for them, and today, many hearing-impaired people with 80–90% hearing difficulty have achieved higher education, like PhDs in physics, careers as social entrepreneurs, interior designers, architects, and many more professions. They live normal lives like us because they believe that possibilities are endless.

Recently, I visited a society with a senior citizen group where I was invited to speak on “Hearing Well, Living Well.” Before I started my talk, I checked the hearing of everyone present. Some were curious to know why I was doing it, some showed their ears because others were doing it, some were reluctant, and some said, “Yes, I have difficulty in hearing, but it’s okay, it’s part of life, nothing to pay attention to.” This gave me insights into their mindset and helped me gain their attention during the lecture. It guided me on what to focus on and how to help them perceive my message. When you interact with people with the right approach, you create endless possibilities.

We hear through our ears, then understand through our brain, and then learn to express. Most seniors who lose their hearing still manage, with limited hearing and understanding, to express themselves. But there is always a difference between just hearing and the pleasure of hearing, just like the difference between just being happy and the pleasure of happiness. I have often wondered how much happiness we really need. If one focuses and works towards creating the best circumstances, then even happiness can have endless possibilities. For example, when your grandchild calls you lovingly and you respond with a hug and warmth, it creates a strong bond. But if you don’t react, over time, your grandchild may lose interest. Imagine how many bonding possibilities you would miss!

Many times, we don’t realize that ignoring certain aspects of our routine life, like our hearing, our health, or our connection with God, can unconsciously increase our hurdles. But with conscious efforts in every aspect, we can create endless possibilities to live in harmony with body, mind, and soul. Often, while doing something new, we may feel: I can’t do it. Will it look good? Should I even try? But the moment you do that activity with sheer enjoyment and the thought I can do it, the whole scenario changes. From that moment, you start exploring endless possibilities.

I once listened to a motivational speaker who narrated how a cow gives milk, but you still need to work to get the milk. Similarly, in life, nothing comes magically; you need to work for it. He said, Do as much as you can, but in today’s world of scientific revolution, expand your mindset, explore more, and you will achieve something in return. We Indians believe in faith and connection with God, but even to connect with Him, we need effort. We need to show through our actions how many possibilities we have explored, whether through prayers, humility, kindness, or most importantly, faith.

God is with us, and He knows what is best for us. That faith itself opens endless possibilities, something I have personally experienced and seen in our hearing-impaired kids. Over the years, with exposure to brilliant minds and the revolution of science and technology, we have witnessed more opportunities and endless possibilities created for these children. A time will come when they will enjoy a better, more stable life than many of us “normal” people. Their passion for learning and their faith in the Almighty will create endless possibilities for them.

In the Mahabharata, there is a dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna. After the war, Lord Krishna said, “The war is over, we have won dharma, now let’s get down from the chariot and return home.” Lord Krishna insisted that Arjuna step down first, even though Krishna was more respected. Arjuna obeyed, and the moment he stepped down, followed by Krishna, the chariot suddenly burst into flames, it had been badly damaged during battle. Arjuna then realized why Lord Krishna had wanted him to get down first. Only God can save us, but in today’s fast world, we humans forget how important it is to connect with Him. He is the only savior if we make endless efforts to connect with Him.

The word impossible itself says I’m possible. Action guided by the right desires, directed along the right path, can create endless possibilities to connect with God. Once we realize this, we truly understand that the possibilities in life are endless.
