Find beauty in simple things….

Positivity is a simple word, but when you put it into action, it creates a greater impact. My writings on positivity were initially just an attempt to think differently, but now, when I reflect deeply, I realize that the word is simple yet powerful enough to change a person’s life. As you know, I have been writing for more than 5 years, and many people call me or meet me to discuss how to remain positive. I try my best to help them find the best solutions to their difficulties. When I published my book, one elderly gentleman came to me and said, “I am 82, retired, educated, but restless because I feel I have not done anything purposeful in my life. I enjoy writing and dream of publishing my own book, but I don’t know how to go about it.” I advised him to simply start writing whatever came to his mind, and once he had written at least 50 pages, he could review them and identify the core message he wanted to share with society.

Age is just a number. Once you are determined about what you want to do in life, nothing can stop you. This uncle began writing, and to his credit, he wrote more than 200 pages. Halfway through, he knew clearly what he wanted to convey, and he even created a rough layout. When he showed it to me, I told him to first edit his own work and then share it with me so we could refine it further and discuss publishing. He worked diligently, followed every step, and at the age of 85, he published his book titled “Your Thoughts Create Your Own Destiny” with over 200 pages. I felt so proud of him. His simplicity and sincerity of action had created wonders.

Today, I feel this is one of the biggest rewards I have received for my writing. My simple word of positivity motivated him to fulfill his dream. His book includes beautiful quotes from famous writers and stories that inspired him to think positively and change his own destiny. He has shown how positive thoughts can transform anyone’s life. After reading his book, I was amazed not only by his hard work despite age-related challenges, but also by his determination to send a message to society: nothing in life is difficult if you have the simple desire to achieve something meaningful.

When we think of simple acts like offering a flower to God, even the divine sees the beauty of our devotion. Lord Krishna says, “Patram pushpam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayachhati,” which means, “Whoever offers Me a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water with devotion, I accept it.” This confirms that even the simplest offering done with devotion is accepted by the divine. We specifically offer fresh flowers to God because they represent purity, sincerity, and surrender. Just as a plant gives birth to a flower and completes its journey when it blossoms, offering a flower is a simple yet beautiful act that symbolizes giving the best and most beautiful creation back to the Creator.

This suggests that even the Almighty is pleased with the simple offering of a fresh flower. Yet for ourselves and for others, how many countless things do we demand? Despite scientific revolutions, fast-paced lifestyles, and abundant facilities, we are often still not happy. Social media and constant exposure to the outside world push us into wanting superficial things. In reality, our soul only longs for a simple connection with nature and God, that alone gives us true and lasting happiness.

Many times, as humans, we act unconsciously, guided by impulse, intuition, instinct, or natural necessity, without much planning or desire. These days, we are merely flowing with the flow. What we truly need is to find the real desire of our soul and act upon it. The simple thought of writing about his feelings gave that uncle the opportunity to explore the beauty of his soul, and his sincere efforts gave life to a beautiful book. If each of us simply begins to understand this, everything around us will appear more beautiful.

Recently, we received a call from children of an international school. They were learning robotics and wanted to share their knowledge with hearing-impaired children. I was delighted to see their simple act of kindness. Around 25 children from our group participated, and they were taught how to make rockets by joining different parts. The children with hearing impairment amazed everyone with their confidence. Despite their challenges, they accepted everything with simple smiles. The “normal” children were surprised to see such enthusiasm. Though our children were simple and underprivileged, their energy and spirit outshone everything else.

I believe beauty always shines through simplicity. There is an aesthetic beauty that depends on an individual’s own mental, emotional, and physical reactions, which differ across races, cultures, and individuals. And then, there is universal beauty, which is felt by the inner eye and heard by the inner ear. When we start to truly feel the beauty of simple things around us, life transforms. I have begun to experience this beauty while working with hearing-impaired children—what about you?
