Ask for more… the universe isn’t on a budget...
This is my 301st article on positivity, and I want the universe to give me more and more positivity so that I can spread it further. The sun has limitless light to share, the moon gives boundless brightness, and the stars sparkle in their own unique ways, then why can’t we ask for more from the universe? A journey of five years of writing has given me immense strength to explore my work with positivity. It has given me an open mind to think, patience to understand others, belief in myself, and the ability to develop empathy. I have learned to use kind words in my writing and speaking, to have hope in everything I do, to accept people the way they are, to be with good people, to love what I do, and to spread love so that people feel kindness still exists.
At this stage of life, I am reminded of the universal law of karma, which says, “As you sow, so shall you reap.” In this fast-paced race to make a difference, we all need to shift our mindset and sow only positivity so that we receive positivity in return. Whether we recognize it or accept it or not, the law of karma always shows results. Many times, we find it difficult to change, but I remember a statement by a well-known doctor who said that change is not difficult. Patients often come to us in critical or poor conditions, yet to treat them, we change everything in their system to achieve faster results. We do our best so they recover and get discharged as soon as possible. Our body, mind, and soul are always ready to change if needed.
Sometimes, it is our perception that does not allow us to change. We work extensively on creating awareness about hearing care. Many people approach us to conduct hearing screening camps, but as professionals, rather than only conducting screenings, we must educate people about hearing and its importance in communication. We visited a school where we were to screen around 300 children from 7th and 8th standards. After screening, we found that nearly 80% of them had wax in both ears.
Before the screening, I spoke to the children about how we hear and how issues like wax, middle ear fluid, or cochlear damage can hamper hearing. Wax can reduce hearing by about 10%, middle ear fluid due to recurrent colds can affect hearing by 15–20%, and hearing loss due to nerve or cochlear damage may require hearing aids. Prolonged use of headphones can damage hearing in the long run. Taking good care of hearing can significantly improve their classroom performance. Such awareness not only helps them but also empowers them to help others.
One child from the group came to me and said, “Ma’am, my grandfather doesn’t hear well. We have to shout at him for him to listen. I used to feel bad that he wasn’t listening to me, but now I understand that his hearing difficulty makes him frustrated, and we feel bad because we have to shout. Can you tell me how I can help my grandfather?” That innocent question won my heart. I thought to myself, what more can I ask from the universe? My efforts to create awareness will change a few lives. Positivity truly works in multiplication.
Someone rightly said that to protect ourselves from the weather, we invented clothes; to protect our feet, we invented footwear; Thomas Alva Edison invented the electric bulb; homes were built for shelter; phones were invented to communicate at a distance; spectacles were created to aid vision; and hearing aids were invented to enhance hearing. From the smallest pin to an airplane, everything first existed as a thought before it was shaped. Then why can’t we consciously give a thought to positivity and ask the universe for it? If we give it thought, we can shape it.
Lord Krishna and Radha gave such powerful thoughts of love to the universe that their love still exists today. When Draupadi was about to lose her dignity, she remembered Lord Krishna, believed in her faith, and her respect was protected in an unlimited manner until her enemies were exhausted. These stories from mythology remind us that every thought, once born in the mind, travels beyond our skin, across the atmosphere, and creates ripples in space.
Our universe itself is a massive thought formed by tremendous and powerful energy. When you think about yourself, you realize that you are a living thought of your parents, and with time, you become a thought of your own making. At the end of life, what remains eternal are your thoughts and values. Every thought, especially a positive one, can give a better shape to the universe. And when we ask for more, our hard work increases, our hunger to achieve deepens, and our capacity to give multiplies. Neither our thoughts nor the universe has a budget, so keep asking for more, just as I do, so that positivity, effort, purpose, and impact continue to grow and spread endlessly.
