Without Making Noise: How Giving Transforms Lives...

It is often said that in giving, we receive. There are many elements in this universe that exist only to give, the sun, the moon, and the stars shine without expecting anything in return. Nature itself follows this principle; plants give us oxygen while receiving carbon dioxide, maintaining a perfect balance. As human beings, we too are gifted with the ability to give, love, knowledge, emotions, and compassion, through our mind, heart, and soul. Yet, how often do we consciously pay attention to our act of giving?

I once came across a beautiful thought: faith is believing in what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is seeing what we believe. This idea deeply connects with the act of giving. Giving, like faith, is often invisible. We may not immediately see its results, but when the rewards unfold, we begin to understand its true value. However, in today’s fast-paced, “selfie-driven” world, we tend to calculate what we will receive before we decide to give.

A profound example of selfless giving can be seen in the teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. The vision behind these teachings was not based on immediate recognition or return but on the intention to guide humanity. Today, millions across the world draw strength and solutions from this wisdom. This reminds us that true giving is driven by vision and purpose, not by expectations of reward.

We experience this principle closely in our own lives as parents. When a child is born, we constantly talk, teach, and nurture them without expecting an immediate response. For months, we continue to give our time, energy, and love with faith. And then one day, the child begins to speak. That moment becomes one of the most rewarding experiences, not because we demanded it, but because we believed in the process of giving.

Interestingly, when it comes to natural processes like nurturing a child, we give without hesitation. But when someone needs our time, warmth, or support, whether emotionally, physically, or financially—we often pause and question the return. A strong community is built when individuals contribute their unique skills and support each other. No one person has everything, but together, we create strength. When we give without conditions, we strengthen not only others but the very fabric of our community.

In professional life too, the act of giving plays a crucial role. Many individuals possess exceptional skills and innovative ideas, yet their growth is often limited by fear, stress, or emotional distractions. When we offer understanding, encouragement, and the right guidance, we enable others to move forward with confidence. Giving in such moments may seem small, but its impact can be transformational, not just for one person, but for many lives connected to them.

At a deeper level, giving also means respecting and valuing others. Whether as a mentor, a leader, or even a listener, it is important to honour the time and trust people place in us. In today’s fast-moving world, patience is limited, and attention is precious. When we give our presence with kindness and gratitude, we create meaningful connections that go beyond words. True giving is not just about actions, it is about intention and awareness.

Faith is invisible, yet its rewards appear as blessings and miracles. Similarly, giving may not always be seen or acknowledged immediately, but its impact is profound. When we shift our mindset from “What will I receive?” to “What can I give?”, we open ourselves to unexpected growth, deeper relationships, and true fulfillment. The more we believe in giving, the more life finds its own beautiful ways to give back.
